What this time of year is PERFECT for

SPRING. A time of beginnings. Of growth. Of expansion. Of starting something new

There’s something about the spring that lights a fire under our butts and says NOW IS THE TIME.

5 years ago I began my health coach training with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition

4 years ago I left my corporate job and started my business

3 years ago I moved into my own apartment in Brooklyn (which I have since moved out of, but living alone was HUGE for me)

2 years ago became the first official employee of Your Healthiest You (big for both me and Robyn!)

1 year ago I launched my new website

And this year I’m excited to be kicking off an apprenticeship at The Studio in NYC

Astrologically, the year starts now. Aries (which we entered into this week) is considered the youngest sign of the zodiac.

All astrological signs have their specific strengths and shadows - it’s not the sign itself that’s bad or good, but what YOU decide to do with that energy.

Aries is the initiator.

Aries season is time to be brave, bold and go after what you want. It’s also an opportunity to be selfish (or “self first” as I like to say).

My question for you today is this: what are you wanting to initiate or move forward with for the year ahead?

While the end of winter (Pisces!) was all about reflection, NOW is the time to take action.

Update your resume and apply for that dream job.

Start writing your blog.

Make the move (you can interpret that one however you’d like).

The time is NOW.

I know first hand the power of this season. I also know the power of support.

My biggest growth in the last five years hasn’t come just because I decided it was time to quit or change or try. It’s come because I had a vision for myself, and had the support I needed - my incredible coaches, mentors and teachers - in order to put that wish or whim or dream into action.

Do you have a vision holder? Someone who can see your higher, brighter, more radiant self? And someone who can provide you with the specific guidance and motivation YOU need in order to make that vision a reality?

Spring recipe roundup!

OMG, it FINALLY feels like spring here in NYC! YAY! I'm excited for longer days, warm sunshine and (of course) SPRING food!!

Today I'm sharing a few recipes highlighting the beautiful produce this season has to offer. What IS in season? Read this post I wrote last year around this time (bonus: there are more recipes there too!).

Like I've mentioned before, I LOVE shopping at farmer's markets, so I am super excited that the markets are officially up and running for the season here in NYC.  

What's in season right now? Peas, radishes, greens, asparagus, potatoes, garlic, lettuce, herbs, mushrooms, rhubarb and (drumroll please...) STRAWBERRIES! I've yet to spot the little red gems at my local markets, but I'm keeping a look out!

Now what to make with all this beautiful produce? I've rounded up a few of the freshest, tastiest recipes featuring this season's bounty.

Spring cleaning for your pantry

Spring is officially in the air! I don't know about you, but I've had an overwhelming urge to clean, organize, and de-clutter. I bought The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up and have slowly been making my way through it (and getting rid of lots of stuff in the process!). 

Today I'm going to challenge you to take this "spring cleaning" energy into your kitchen and your pantry. Why? Because when you fill your fridge and cabinets with only GOOD stuff, that's what you'll eat, and you will feel lighter, more energized. It's as simple as that. 

Here are three things you'll want to clean out ASAP:

1. Sugar AND fake sugar - This is my weakness, and likely yours too. No matter where you "hide" it, it will still be there waiting for you to come home after a long, hard day. Just say goodbye to that leftover Easter candy, packaged cookies, and Splenda. Please, please toss the fake stuff too - it's just as bad, if not worse, than the real thing. Instead try maple syrup, honey, or coconut sugar. 

2. Poor quality oils - Canola, vegetable, soybean, margarine, anything partially hydrogenated. These oils are super processed and so your body does not know what to do with them (which means they often get stored as fat!). Replace these with coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil and other cold pressed, unrefined oils (avocado, flaxseed, walnut, pumpkin seed, etc).  

3. Sketchy ingredients - Okay, this is a big category, but really why would you want to put anything in your body if you don't know what it is? Ditch or donate anything that has a super long list, hard to pronounce ingredients, or has been sitting on your shelf forever. Just let it go
