Tahini Matcha Latte

When I heard I could have tahini on my SIBO healing protocol, I let out an audible sign of relief.

I won’t go into the details of the protocol here but let’s just say it’s VERY specific. My list of “no” foods is much longer than my list of “yes” foods, and that no list includes some of my favorite healthy items like chocolate, sweet potatoes and nut butter.

But TAHINI is a yes so you better believe I’ve been getting creative with this sesame spread, starting with my morning matcha.

I think I actually prefer this version of matcha to my tried and true matcha latte (made creamy with coconut milk or coconut butter). The tahini adds a distinct flavor that I love!

Side note: The flavor and texture of tahini, like many nut and seed butters, differs greatly across brands. Here are a few of my favorites: Soom Foods, Trader Joe’s, 365 Brand and Seed + Mill.

Tahini Matcha Latte


  • 1 tsp tahini

  • 1 tsp coconut oil

  • 1 tsp matcha (my favorite brand is Matchaful)

  • 1 scoop collagen peptides

  • Sprinkle of cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

  • Pinch sea salt

  • Optional: 1 pitted date or honey for sweetness (omit if you’re on a SIBO or low FODMAP plan)


  1. Blend all ingredients with 1 1/2 - 2 cups hot (not boiled) water in your high speed blender until frothy! Enjoy!

Here's what I'm currently craving and crushing on:


Food: Purple sweet potatoes. Have you ever tried a purple sweet potato?? I'm in LOVE! Aside from being totally beautiful, these spuds have a dryer, denser, and richer taste than regular sweet potatoes. I've been roasting them in a little coconut oil, sea salt + cinnamon and then enjoying as part of my Superhuman Breakfast.  Or eating them like this. Look for purple sweet potatoes at your local health foods store, Whole Foods, or even Trader Joe's!

Drink: My Superpowers Matcha Latte. I've literally had this 29 out of the last 30 days (one day I ran out of coconut milk). It's so good and gives me the perfect amount of fuel and energy to fly through my morning workouts.

Recipe: Some variation of my Cauliflower Rice Bowl. It's a weeknight staple and I've made it for a few friends who were HUGE fans! Do it yourself: Cauliflower Rice Bowl Recipe.

Snack: Rx Bars. OMG! These bars are the bomb.com. They are made with simple, whole food ingredients: nuts, dates and spices, plus have added protein (from egg whites). I like the taste of these bars WAY better than Larabars, plus I find they sit better with me. I find Larabars (and other dried fruit heavy bars) are too sweet and often don't digest well. Book, podcast or blog: It Starts With Food. If you follow me on Instagram you'll know that I did a Whole30 this month. This book is written by the creators of the Whole30 program (side note: I have a blog post coming with WHAT exactly is the Whole30 and my experience) and I thought it was an incredible read and resource whether you are doing a Whole30 or not. This book covers the basics of clean eating AND the psychology of food (which I find SO fascinating!!). This is a good pick for you if you are looking to get motivated to make some changes in your diet and need a little tough love. Order your copy on Amazon here: It Starts With Food.

Essential oil: Lavender. Pretty much everyone's favorite essential oil, I've loved diffusing this at night to wind down, or during the day with a few drops of lemon oil for a calming blend. Learn more about essential oils + where to purchase here: Essential Oils.

Yoga pose: Plow pose! Secret confession: I used to hate this pose! Until I started practicing it regularly and figured out the proper alignment for my body. Now I love it! Which is great because plow is one of the best poses you can do - it improves circulation, boosts your immune system and is super restorative.

Superpowers Coconut Matcha Latte

This coconut matcha latte my current morning obsession: it's packed with healthy fats and clean protein so this drink sustains me through my AM workouts (without the crash of a typical coffee/latte drink).

I've posted this drink a few times on Instagram and realized I needed to do a full blog post to share the recipe and more about the incredible superfoods I've chosen to include in my cup.

Here's what makes this drink superpowered:

  • Collagen - Collagen is what is responsible for giving skin elasticity, hair its strength, and connective tissue its ability to hold everything in place. It's pure protein and has no flavor so a perfect addition to any smoothie, bulletproof style tea, soup or sauce. Right now I'm loving the Collagen Peptides from Vital Proteins.

  • Matcha - Matcha is so incredible that I wrote a whole blog post about it. Check that out here: All about Matcha!

  • Maca - Need an energy boost?  Look no further than maca.  This powerhouse powder has been used for centuries to increase energy, boost libido, and balance hormones (especially good for my ladies!).  Quick tip: A little goes a long way and it's potent stuff!  I love a pinch in my morning coffee or matcha creations, but steer clear of it later into the afternoon/evening.

  • Coconut - Adding full fat coconut milk or coconut butter to my morning matcha latte gives this drink staying power (i.e. I have energy to make it through my morning workout or class without having to eat a full breakfast if I don’t want to). Coconut is one of the best healthy fats and it can actually help you lower cholesterol levels, improve blood pressure, and prevent heart attacks or a stroke. I recommend buying the kind that comes in a can - check the label to make sure there are no added stabilizers or other ingredients.

  1. Blend in Vitamix or blender until frothy! Makes enough for two mugs (but I usually drink it all myself hehe). Increase or decrease hot water to your liking!

Bulletproof Matcha Latte

Give your matcha tea an extra BOOST with brain-boosting fats and energizing collagen.

Bulletproof Matcha Latte // paleo, gluten free, refined sugar free


- 3/4 cup almond or coconut milk

- 3/4 cup water

- 2 tsp matcha powder

- 1 tsp ghee or butter (can use coconut butter for vegan version)

- 1 tsp coconut oil

- 1 tsp collagen powder

- vanilla + stevia or sweetener to taste


1. Heat water and almond milk until hot but not boiling.

2. Add all ingredients to your high speed blender and blend until frothy!

- Raw fennel - I've been snacking on this non-stop! Cleansing, crunchy and delicious!
- Garlic sauerkraut - Mixed into salads, added to eggs, mashed with avocado, this stuff is the bomb! I literally go through a jar a week.
- Iced mint matcha lattes - if you haven't tried this recipe, do it now! ;)
- HIIT workouts - Okay, so it's a love hate relationship. I resist going outside of my comfort zone, but, like I've mentioned before, this is where real change and growth happens. I always feel strong and proud after a session at the FHITTing room or Tonehouse (and sore the next day, which I know means my muscles are growing!!).
- Rosemary essential oil -  Considered sacred by ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians and Hebrews, Rosemary has been revered for centuries for its digestive uses and for healthy respiratory function. It's also very rejuvenating. I've been rubbing a drop in my collarbone before heading out for the day [in case you missed it, check out this post for my daily essential oil routine].
