Loving Lately // Fall 2018

As a way to share my favorites with you on a regular basis, I created the "Things I'm Loving Lately" series on my blog. In this series I share everything from food to fitness, brands to beauty products, good reads to good listens.

It’s officially fall in NYC so today I'm sharing some of things that I've been loving on this season.

Here's what I'm currently craving and crushing on:

RECIPE: Curry + Turmeric Roasted Squash

I keep expecting this curry + turmeric roasted squash recipe to get old… but it JUST DOESN’T. It’s so, so good. The combination of spicy curry with anti-inflammatory turmeric is perfection sprinkled on dense and slightly sweet winter squash.

I usually make this recipe with kabocha squash (a Japanese pumpkin that’s like a cross between a pumpkin and a sweet potato) but you can do it with virtually any squash, or vegetable for that matter (cauliflower is quite good here too!)

 DRINK: CRIO BRU

I’ve been experimenting with different morning drinks and right now I’m super into Crio Bru cacao tea. It’s virtually caffeine free and less acidic than coffee or cacao powder (since you steep it like a loose leaf tea).

You can find Crio Bru (+ all my other favorite superfoods) on my shop page: My Favorite Products.

FOOD: ANYTHING PURPLE

A few weeks ago I attended a workshop led by Master FaXiang Hou, a certified and highly accomplished Master of Medical QiGong and Traditional Chinese Medicine. He taught us some breathing and energy techniques, but also shared his traditional wisdom around eating for the seasons.

I’m putting together my notes from the workshop, but one of my takeaways was that we should be eating more PURPLE foods this time of year (fall), so I’ve been loading up on purple kale and collards, purple sweet potatoes, eggplant and cabbage.

Book, blog or podcast: WHEN FOOD IS LOVE

I picked up When Food is Love by Geneen Roth at the library last week and I was deeply moved after reading just the first page of the book’s introduction.

Geneen Roth is one of the original teachers who talks and teaches about breaking free from emotional eating. I first learned about her work when I was studying at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition.

If you resonated with some of what I shared in either of these blog posts, I think you’d also enjoy this book:

Essential oil: VETIVER

I was introduced to vetiver by my amazing acupuncturist - it’s woodsy and complex aroma is known to provide a calming, grounding effect making it ideal for massage therapy and promoting restful sleep.

Vetiver is super thick and viscous. Be patient with this oil - a drop or two mixed into body oil and rubbed on the legs is incredible right before bed, or diffuse it with lavender for the best sleep ever.

Workout or self care: MY HOME YOGA PRACTICE

A few weeks ago I participated in a Home Practice workshop at The Studio in NYC. Almost every day since then, I’ve done 30-45 minutes of yoga on my own, something I’ve never been able to do before despite teaching and practicing for years.

According to the Katonah Yoga teachings, a Home Practice is not simply doing yoga in your home, it’s about creating a daily, personal ritual that allows you to come into your body (your real, true home). One of the most impactful things I learned during this training was that a Home Practice doesn’t need to mean going through a full yoga class or practicing what I’d teach at a studio - it can be as simply as a few poses + some breathwork to fire me up for the day, or a longer hold in plow to sooth my soul before bed.

If you’re in the NYC area and curious in learning more about this practice and material, I encourage you to come take class at The Studio. They’re also holding another Home Practice workshop this weekend (November 10-11) if this piece in particular resonated with you.

If you’re not in NYC, you can still get a taste for this practice by checking out my Morning Breathwork Routine video.

Rare opportunity to work with me 1:1

I’ve received a few inquiries so I wanted to mention that I’m taking on a few 1:1 coaching clients at this time - I have 2 spaces open to be exact. I haven't opened up 1:1 coaching in over 6 months and I'm not sure when I'll have openings again. In my work with my clients we do a mix of health, life and spiritual coaching, depending on the individual some areas may be more of focus (which means we can talk about tarot or what your zodiac sign means, but also how to meal prep).

Loving Lately // Fall 2017

As a way to share my favorites with you on a regular basis, I created the "Things I'm Loving Lately" series here on the blog. In this series I share everything from food to fitness, brands to beauty products, good reads to good listens.

Here's what I'm currently craving and crushing on:

- Food: Bone Broth - Bone broth is a part of my regular diet, but I go through phases where I really CRAVE it, and I'm in one of those now. I finally wrote a post all about the benefits of this super food, you can check that out here: Bone Broth 101. Bone broth fits into a number of my "Loving Lately" categories - it's a drink, snack AND I've been loving my Bone Broth Breakfast Soup as an easier breakfast when I'm not in the mood for a full Superhuman Breakfast.

- Drink: My Superfood Hot Cocoa - It's the perfect pick me up for a chilly morning!

- Recipe: Superhuman Breakfast - I took a break from this breakfast but I'm back at it and loving it MORE than ever. Sure, it takes some time to make, but I've been using this time as a meditation of sorts. I'll put on some relaxing music and enjoy the process of making myself this nourishing meal (and focus on infusing it with good intentions!).

- Snack: Kur Bite Size Bars - I LOVE these raw fruit and nut bars! Not only are they the perfect snack size (in my opinion, most of the fruit and nut bars on the market are slightly too big, which is why I often make my own), they are DELICIOUS! If you like Larabars or Rx bars, I think you'll love these too. My favorite flavor is the Chocolate Mint and I've been having it as a small treat after lunch. It really hits the spot! Want to try them yourself? Use code EMILY20 for 20% off your order!

- Book, podcast or blog: The Balanced Blonde Soul on Fire - The past year or so I've been on a big spirituality kick and I'm super interested in all things woo-woo and slightly witchy. Jordan from The Balanced Blonde has been too, which is why I've loved listening to her podcast: Soul on Fire. In this podcast, she interviews entrepreneurs who have "set their souls on fire" ie found career paths that they are passionate about. Recently she's had a lot more spiritual guests on the podcast covering everything from crystals to reiki to shamanism and more. It's been fun to follow along with Jordan's journey (she started as a vegan food blogger back in the day) and I love that I can learn more about all these different spiritual modalities through the podcast.

Here are a few episodes that I was especially into:
Episode 63 with active wear guru Lorna Jane Clarkson
Episode 57 How I started blogging and turned my passion into a career (solo episode)
Episode 52 with energy alchemist Nicola Berman
Episode 42 with psychic medium Maryann Dimarco

- Essential oil: Holiday Joy - This special  holiday blend has been going in my diffuser and it makes my home smell sweet and spicy, and oh so cozy. To learn more + purchase oils, head to www.emilynachazel.com/essential-oils.

- Yoga pose: There's not ONE post I'm specifically loving right now; more so I'm LOVING going to classes! Since I'm a teacher I often think that I should just be able to teach myself, which I CAN, but I SO enjoy going to classes and learning from my own teachers. I've been leaning into that and getting my booty to more classes and it's been awesome.

Loving Lately // Summer 2017

As a way to share my favorites with you on a regular basis, I created the "Things I'm Loving Lately" series here on the blog. In this series I share everything from food to fitness, brands to beauty products, good reads to good listens.

Here's what I'm currently craving and crushing on:

- Food: Smoked Salmon. Smoked salmon is such an easy + delicious protein that works equally well for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I've been buying the Wild Smoked Sockeye Salmon from Trader Joe's - it's a little thicker and spicier and I think it tastes more like cooked salmon than traditional lox.

- Drink: My Electrolyte Lemonade. This drink is the perfect remedy for the hot, sweaty days of summer. It's naturally rich in electrolytes, which are especially important to replenish this time of year (since we loose so much through sweating).

- Recipe: Creamy Vanilla Smoothie. In my opinion, summer time is the BEST time for smoothies. I've come to learn that my body does best on lower sugar (i.e. lower fruit) smoothies, so this Creamy Vanilla Smoothie has been a go-to for me this season. I prefer to have something heartier for breakfast and enjoy my smoothie as a snack or light dinner!

- Snack: Raw fennel. Okay, this isn't a new "Loving Lately" for me but it's SUCH a great snack that I had to share again! Fennel is awesome for your digestion, plus the slightly sweet and crunchy flavor is so satisfying. Slice it up and enjoy on it's own, or dip in guacamole or hummus for a heartier snack.

- Book, podcast or blog: A Wrinkle in Time. I've been re-reading this childhood classic and love it.

- Essential Oil: doTERRA Peace blend. This essential oil blend in my "instant calm." Whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed, anxious or unsettled, I roll some of this on my wrists and take a deep breath in. To learn more + purchase oils, head to www.emilynachazel.com/essential-oils.

- Yoga pose: BACKBENDS. Back bends are energizing because they open up your lungs + give you more space to B R E A T H E! Back bends are pretty challenging for me personally, so I've been loving more restorative variations that use props to help the body get into these positions. I've actually been pretty obsessed with props in ALL of my yoga poses these days - I find that they help me go deeper into postures that feel unattainable or unsafe without support.

Loving Lately // February 2017

As a way to share my favorites with you on a regular basis, I created the "Things I'm Loving Lately" series here on the blog. In this series I share everything from food to fitness, brands to beauty products, good reads to good listens.

Here's what I'm currently craving and crushing on:

- Food: Spaghetti squash! I've been loving ALL squash recently, but especially this fun variety. If you are new to spaghetti squash, it's a large yellow squash that, when cooked, has a texture like spaghetti! SO cool! I've been enjoying this squash with my Brazil Nut Pesto (recipe linked below) AND scrambled up with eggs, cinnamon, vanilla and sea salt for a quick + easy breakfast.

- Drink: Coconut water and coconut milk. Move over almond milk, there's a new non-dairy kid on the block. Okay, so coconut milk is SO not new, but I've had a recent resurgence of love for this super creamy dairy alternative. Also, I've noticed that having fewer nuts and nut products in my diet is great for my digestion.

- Recipe: Brazil Nut Pesto. Can't stop won't stop with this super delicious dairy free pesto. I LOVE seeing how so many of you are making and loving it too! Keep tagging me at @emilynachazel so I can be sure to catch your delicious creations!

- Snack: GREEN JUICE! Ever since I've been in California, my body has been CRAVING green juice! I always go for something very green (i.e. no fruit) and try to pair it with a little bit of fat (chia seeds, 1/2 an avocado, a few nuts) because the fat helps your body properly absorb the nutrients from the greens!

- Book, podcast or blog: Girl on The Train. I just listened to this using Audible and I think I had read it before. Does anyone else ever do that???

- Essential Oil: doTERRA Passion blend. Passion is an inspiring blend of cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, clove, jasmine and vanilla. I think it smells like bubble gum and I love rolling it onto my wrists as a light perfume! To learn more + purchase oils, head to www.emilynachazel.com/essential-oils.

- Yoga pose or resource: FORTE Fit. I've been LOVING teaching again for FORTE fit! In case you missed it, FORTE is a streaming service for boutique fitness classes and I'm super excited to be teaching on FORTE's platform because this means that you can now take my yoga classes from ANYWHERE!! At anytime! I used FORTE while I was traveling this month and it was so great to have a huge library of workouts that I could take since I wasn't hitting up my regular classes in NYC.
