What I Ate Wednesday (9/16/15)

In an effort to show you all more of what I eat as a primarily plant-based, active adult, I'm starting a new series here on the blog - "What I Ate Wednesday."  Each Wednesday I'll snap a picture of everything I eat and post the pictures plus descriptions here on the blog.  I'll share helpful information on what I'm eating and why.

PLEASE, please, please do not think that your food choices should directly mirror mine - we are all different and what works for my body may not work for your body, and vice versa.  I'm still figuring out what works best for me and guess what?  It's changing all the time.  I'm simply sharing my choices with the hopes to give you more ideas when it comes to plant based foods and meals.

Here's what I ate this Wednesday:

Upon waking: Water. Matcha with 2-minute almond milk (I added extra cinnamon + some nutmeg to this weeks batch - YUM!!)

Breakfast: Smoothie with banana, berries, protein powder, cinnamon, ginger, almond milk, almond butter. Quick tip: As temperatures start to cool, add warming spices (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg) and less ice to your smoothies. This is a great way to continue enjoying smoothies through the fall and winter.

AM snack: 1/2 a kombucha Quick tip: You do not have to drink your whole bottle of kombucha all at once! This is how I save money when purchasing kombucha - I'll have half one day and half the next (you still are getting plenty of the good-for-you stuff, trust me!).

Lunch: Sautéed greens (spinach + kohlrabi greens), kraut, roasted potatoes, avocado, egg; 2 squares Hu Kitchen dark chocolate (this chocolate is truly amazing).

Snack: Life Tonic from Lulitonix. Hibiscus berry tea + chia seeds - this drink fills you up! I forgot to take a picture of this, but you can learn more about Luli products on their website. As you may have noticed, I LOVE Lulitonix - they have blended greens (both sweet and savory), non-dairy cashew milks, and tonics. Everything is vegan, gluten free, and ORGANIC! Try Lulitonix for yourself: order online (they ship nationally), or purchase at NYC Whole Foods or their store in Soho.  Who knows, you may just run into me =)

Dinner: Sweetgreen spicy sabzi salad - kale and spinach, chickpeas, spicy quinoa, spicy roasted broccoli, sprouts, beets, and basil. Plus avocado because it's me.

And there you have it - another day in my food life.  If there is anything specific you are interested in, or would like to ask me, please don't be shy!  I would love to hear your thoughts and questions in the comments below.

For all my NYC friends, a quick reminder that I'm holding a *FREE* workshop tomorrow night at Athleta on 18th and 5th - we'll chat about how to use essential oils and yoga to get back into a healthy routine for fall, I'll lead a 50-minute yoga class, and there will be refreshments and mingling afterwards. PLUS there will be some fun giveaways.  You don't want to miss this!  Make sure you are on the list and RSVP here.
