What I Ate Wednesday 6/24/15

In an effort to show you all more of what I eat as a primarily plant-based, active adult, I'm starting a new series here on the blog - "What I Ate Wednesday."  Each Wednesday I'll snap a picture of everything I eat and post the pictures plus descriptions here on the blog.  I'll share helpful information on what I'm eating and why. 

PLEASE, please, please do not think that your food choices should directly mirror mine - we are all different and what works for my body may not work for your body, and vice versa.  I'm still figuring out what works best for me and guess what?  It's changing all the time.  I'm simply sharing my choices with the hopes to give you more ideas when it comes to plant based foods and meals. 

Here's what I ate this Wednesday:

Upon waking: Water with lemon, matcha tea with homemade hemp milk.

Breakfast: Smoothie with vanilla protein powder, blueberries, bee pollen, spinach, and a little coconut oil (good fat!).  Note:  I'm experimenting with adding more protein to my breakfasts.  "Experimenting" is something I encourage my clients to do all the time - switch up your routine and notice how you feel!  Some things to try: increasing protein in the AM, increasing healthy fats with your meals, taking a break from dairy and/or gluten, switching up your protein sources.  Need help making these changes?  I'd love to support you =) 

AM Snack:  KeVita sparkling probiotic drink.  I love bubbly drinks, especially ones with good-for-your-gut probiotics!  I like the KeVita brand because they are very low in sugar. 

Lunch:  Some baby carrots + radish slices + salad from sweetgreen: Mixed greens, raw carrots, raw cabbage, sprouts, cucumbers, quinoa, spicy sunflower seeds, and avocado with their Spicy Cashew dressing.  This dressing is my favorite and I will have to re-create it soon!

PM Snack: Some crazy delicious superfood snacks at an ALOHA new product, including the "Cereal Crunch" chocolate bar pictured above (its like a healthified Crunch bar made with hemp seeds and quinoa!).  A few of the other snacks I tried (all vegan, gluten free, non GMO, no processed sugar, etc, etc): Powdered Coconut Water, ALOHA Protein, Superfood Trail Mix (very similar to my own recipe! love it!), and the BRAND NEW Protein Bars and Snack Bar (which will be available for purchase later in the summer).

Dinner: Mediterranean feast with some of my NYC cousins!  I can't take credit for making any of this, but it was all amazing!  Tons of veggies, a yummy quinoa salad, and lots of different sauces. We also had fresh figs, apricots, and cherries for dessert.
