What I Ate Wednesday 11/11/15

In an effort to show you all more of what I eat as a primarily plant-based, active adult, I'm starting a new series here on the blog - "What I Ate Wednesday."  Each Wednesday I'll snap a picture of everything I eat and post the pictures plus descriptions here on the blog.  I'll share helpful information on what I'm eating and why. 

PLEASE, please, please do not think that your food choices should directly mirror mine - we are all different and what works for my body may not work for your body, and vice versa.  I'm still figuring out what works best for me and guess what?  It's changing all the time.  I'm simply sharing my choices with the hopes to give you more ideas when it comes to plant based foods and meals. Here's what I ate this Wednesday: 

Upon waking: Big ol' glass of water, then Yerba Mate tea with a little coconut oil + raw honey. 

Breakfast: Blueberry Buzz smoothie. What can I say, I'm a creature of habit. And this smoothie is just THAT GOOD! Just an FYI - this looks like a small glass, but in reality I had a GIANT mason jar of this smoothie. I had half right after teaching and then half a little later in the AM. 

AM snack: Good-for-your-gut gummies! Homemade fruit gummies that are actually good for you? YES! This is not my recipe, so I can't share it, but stay tuned as I'll have more information on where you can get this recipe + many other healthy-gut recipes and tips soon! :)

Lunch: Quinoa bowl with sautéed power greens (a mix of kale, spinach, and chard from Trader Joe's), roasted turnip, sauerkraut and sesame seed sprinkle. Plus I munched on some raw radish. Quick tip: Try roasting some of the more intense roots like turnips and radishes, They get super sweet in the oven!

Afternoon snack: Kombucha! I've been making my own lately but just ran out so got some of my favorite GTs Trilogy for a treat. 

Dinner: Turmeric + ginger roasted carrot soup plus a side of sauerkraut mashed with avocado. Quick tip: If you are not a fan of sauerkraut, try eating it with avocado, it mellows the flavors of the kraut immensely (got this tip from my girl Robyn Youkilis).
